Subamniotic hematoma is a rare placental pathological lesion situated within amnion and chorion and extends anteriorly to placenta but is limited by reflection of the amnion on placental insertion site of umbilical cord. It can be single or multiple and is usually found after birth. There were reported cases where subamniotic hematomas were detected by ultrasound in early pregnancy, but they usually resolved over time and did not intervere with the fetal growth and development. Subamniotic hematoma found postnataly is typically resulted from the rupture of chorionic vessels (fetal vessels) near the placental cord insertion due to excessive traction on the umbilical cord at delivery.
